The Universe Online

The Universe Online is a series of events accessible through the internet with your computer or mobile device.

We share the Universe through different formats, such as talks or quizzes. In these sessions, everyone is invited to ask questions, answer to challenges and participate in games. The sessions are recorded on YouTube, so you can watch again anytime.

Space climate: Storm in orbit

The Sun, that quiet disc in the blue sky, is sometimes the source of extreme events that menace our highly technological society. IA researchers answer questions in a live session dedicated to space climate.

Inhabiting other Planets

How will it be possible, in Mars, to do such simple and essential things like breathe or drink a glass of water? Learn the challenges that will need to be overcome before a human colony can succeed in another planet.

Unexpected worlds in our Galaxy

If you would like to have a really eccentric holiday home, there are very weird planets in our Galaxy for you to choose from. The hard task rests with the astronomers, as Sérgio Sousa, of IA, will explain.

The Phantom Universe

Part of the Universe we cannot see, but we feel it. More surprisingly, that is almost everything that exists, but we don't know what it is. Let's try to touch this phantom side of the Universe. Session with Tiago Barreiro, of IA and Universidade Lusófona.

What is hidden in the dark sky

What is hidden beyond the edge of the light, in the darkest areas of the sky? Which frontiers of the unknown await astronomers there, and what challenges have yet to be overcome? Session with Fernando Buitrago, of the University of Valhadolid and IA.

Searching for New Worlds

In the next session of "The Universe Online", you will have the opportunity to talk to IA researchers that are on the frontline of the search for a new "Earth".
