Esta é uma imagem composta que representa a emissão de gás ionizado, hidrocarbonetos, gás molecular, poeira e luz estelar espalhada. As estrelas jovens do aglomerado do Trapézio, cuja intensa radiação ultravioleta esculpe uma região rica em filamentos, glóbulos e estrelas jovens com discos e cavidades, são visíveis no canto superior direito.
